Nyabihu Tea Garden
The Tea Factory of Nyabihu is located in the North-West of Rwanda
in the Western Province, Nyabihu District, 123 km away from Kigali,
the capital city of Rwanda.
The present cultivated mature tea extent of Nyabihu is 630 hectares
and is expanding annually. The tea farmers in the vicinity
supply their green leaf to the factory. 80 hectares of mature fuel
wood is available and annually extensive areas are being planted
newly.
Climatic conditions
The tea fields of Nyabihu are located mainly on high altitudes,
around 2300 meters above the sea level. The soil is volcanic.
The climatic conditions at Nyabihu are characterized by abundant
rains during march/June and September/January, with temperatures
around 15 degrees Celsius.
Extension of the Tea unit
Nyabihu has embarked on an extensive tea replanting programme. The tea small holders too are
encouraged to expand their units. The factory is being developed further to cater to the increased intake of green leaf.
